The Auto Utilities
These disk utilities are provided as Public Domain and
Shareware programs. Their use can enhance the functionality of
VDOS. If they have individual .DOC files, be sure to read them
before using.
RAM Installations of VDOS
If you desire to have a RAM installation of VDOS, ensure that
these programs are added to your \AUTO folder in this order:
Diskfree.Prg
Folderxxx.Prg
Vdisk.Prg
Vload.Prg
Gemstart.Prg
**** Next, to have all of the programs contained in the main VDOS
archive they must first be removed from the archive with ARC.TTP
and then must be placed in a folder named \VDOS contained within
the root directory of your boot disk. In other words, don't place
the \VDOS folder within another folder. These programs are
VDOS.PRG, VEXEC, VDOS.HLP, and VDOS.INF if you have defined a
library yet. ****
And in the root directory (not the \AUTO or \VDOS folder),
place the Gemstart.Inf file so Gemstart can find out where VDOS is
located. You may also desire to install an Icon for Drive M by
first exiting VDOS and then creating the new Icon. By saving the
new Desktop.Inf file, you'll have an Icon present when exiting
VDOS to the Desktop. You can then return to VDOS by opening the
Icon and running VDOS in the normal way.
RAM Warning!!!
If you define or clear autoslots while using a RAM based VDOS
installation, you MUST be sure to copy the new VDOS.INF file from
Drive M: to your boot disk in the \VDOS folder. Failure to do so
will result in the loss of any changes you have made just as soon
as the machine is either turned off or rebooted. It only takes a
second, Just Keep It In Mind!!
Obtaining a VDOS Manual
Instructions for obtaining a VDOS user manual (100+ pages) is
contained in the VDOS.HLP file within the main VDOS archive.
